Alamogordo Public Schools recently graduated 30 teachers from a 2-year structured literacy program called LETRS. ✍️📖
This course includes 8 units of study, 48 hours of live training and 32 hours of asynchronous coursework plus additional hand-on application of learning for each unit.
LETRS, Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling! It equips teachers with the research-based strategies and tools necessary to teach language comprehension and word recognition—as well as the brain science behind it —to promote student reading and spelling success. Since 2020, APS has enrolled over 145 teachers in the program. The majority of our Kindergarten-2nd grade teachers have completed the program; current enrollments include teachers of 3rd-5th grade, special education, English Language Learners, and K-5 teachers who are new to APS. Structured Literacy Training will expand to 6th grade in the 2025/2026 school year.
Congratulations to our amazing teachers who completed the training program!!! 🥳🙌
