Attendance Matters

NMPED ATTENDANCE FOR SUCCESS

Across the country, more than 8 million students are missing so many days of school that they are academically at risk. Chronic absence — missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences and suspensions, can translate into third-graders unable to master reading, sixth-graders failing subjects, and ninth-graders dropping out of high school.

[Success Act] Definitions: What is "Absent"?

Absent: Not in attendance for a class or school day for any reason, excused or not.
Chronically Absent/Chronic Absenteeism: Absent 10% or more of classes/days for any reason when enrolled for more than 10 days.

Attendance Intervention Suite

Alamogordo Public Schools is excited to announce that we will be implementing a new communication tool within PowerSchool, known as Attendance Intervention Suite, to help keep you up-to-date on the attendance of your child. Regular school attendance is fundamental to a student's academic and personal development. When students attend school consistently, they are more likely to succeed academically, build positive relationships with peers and teachers, and develop essential life skills.

We invite parents and guardians to partner with us in prioritizing their child's education by ensuring their regular attendance at school. We understand that there may be challenges that can affect attendance, and we are here to support families in overcoming those challenges.
